What’s on UniTube: New York University flexes its Estates Team; Bradford likes a good VHS; Georgia Tech pulls off a socially-distance graduation

The holidays tend to be one of the most interesting times for university video.

That said, they are also a tense time.

There’s the need to convert students before that big January deadline, all whilst appeasing your more vocal stakeholders before you down tools for a fortnight. It’s a tough balance to strike.

Kyle has asked me to outline some of the big and slightly smaller winners (because we are all winners working in a university video team).

You’ll find a plethora more if you go on a deep YouTube dive, but hopefully some of the below will brighten your 2021 as you step back into the Teams singularity.

Falmouth University - Happy Holidays from all of us at Falmouth

We look forward to welcoming you into our inspiring community in the future. But for now, here's a message for you from our current students. Want to find ou...

Falmouth University has made the most of its reduced tiers and lovely coastline, daring to film in person.

It’s put together a lovely, punchy piece with great pacing and a good mixture of fixed camera and drone shots.

I’ll skip running into the ocean though.

Loughborough University - Disc sander introduction

The most festive thing on Loughborough University’s channel this year was a humble disc sander. However, don’t rule this video out.

The voiceover has an early “BBC educational video” vibe to it and is oddly soothing, so it might just be your happy place before the first team meeting of the year.

Nicely shot too. Solid safety video.

University of Bradford -  Chemical engineering | this is where I’m making change

Bradford has its eyes on the prize and is focusing on student conversion before January, specifically for those elusive engineering students…

The piece has great pacing and a lovely visual style, incorporating some nostalgic 4:3 VHS style cutaways.

Cardiff University - We will dance again

Poem performed by Rhys Archer, an undergraduate in the School of Music. Music composed and performed by Dr Daniel Bickerton, Senior Lecturer in the School of...

Cardiff has bought out the big guns and gone with the theme I like to call “John Lewis Christmas Poem.”

A heartwarming piece, which subtly offers a sense of continuity and safety. Much needed for 2021 which has been dubbed “the year of recovery”.

University of Liverpool - My original

To find out more about studying at the University of Liverpool, visit our website: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/studyFollow us on social media:Twitter: https:...

Liverpool has taken an interesting brand position, touting themselves as the original red brick university. Would be good to hear a bit more about the thinking behind this one.

New York University - How NYU Tackles Snow

Snow control at New York University is no picnic, and the hard work of clearing the campus falls to AVP of Operations Carlos Zafra and his team at Collins Bu...

“If it falls, we pick it up. That’s the plan.”

New York University has decided to flex on your Estates team, by showing off its elite snow shoveling operation.

Mr Plow, what’s my name? That name again is: Mr Plow.

Georgia Tech - Commencement returns to Georgia Tech

The 2020 Georgia Tech Commencement returned to Bobby Dodd Stadium to confer degrees upon 9,330 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students from the spring...

Georgia Tech hasn’t let Covid-19 stop its graduation ceremonies. In the US, they sack off the town hall or cathedral, sort you out with a deck chair and sit you in a football field.
